Wulfin Lieske, guitarist- Wulfin Lieske, whose playing John Williams summed up with the simple remark "He is sensational", celebrated his international debut at the age of 14 in the famous abbey on the Scottish island of Iona. Lieske was already playing his own compositions at his first public appearance. Today, the guitarist who was born in Linz, Austria and who has worked with Gidon Kremer, Astor Piazzolla and Juan José Mosalini, composes for artists such as the Hilliard Ensemble. In numerous projects and ensembles, Lieske, whose breathtaking repertoire reaches from Bach to free improvisation, erases the borders between classical, traditional and contemporary, and old and new music in his theme-oriented chamber music cycles. They are often expanded to encompass light installations, dance, oratorio and performance as well. Lieske is one of the few modern musicians that is capable of initiating new musical paths and developments that are far removed from the mainstream-inspired postmodern forms of style intermixture.
His œuvre as a composer includes chamber music with guitar, choral works and concertos for orchestra. In 2000 his oratorio „Über den Wassern“ was premiered by the HILLIARD Ensemble and his own quartet BRONSKY RITUAL at the EXPO in Hannover. In 2013 he premiered his symphonic poem „Dreamtime“ for didgeridoo, guitar and orchestra at the Cologne philharmonic. His first CD with his own works is TAQSIM I-III. A recording of his more recent guitar compositions as well as his piano works will be published soon.
In 2015 Wulfin Lieske composed a violin concerto and „In Luce“ for mixed chorus.
