Tolga Salman, Bandoneon – Tolga Salman completed his classical music education in Turkey and then in Germany. Through his passion for Argentinian and Uruguayan concert tangos, and through the influence of Astor Piazzolla, Dino Saluzzi and Orhan Avşar he started learning bandoneon on his own. Later on he the opportunity to work with Dino Saluzzi, Hector Ulises Passarella, and gained a wide repertoire with the instrument.
He founded the “Salman Duo” with his cellist brother Koray Salman, and through the support of the Fedele Fenaroli Foundation, they performed with Hector Ulises Passarella Orchestra in Lanciano, Italy. He performed with Orkestra Akademik Başkent, Bozok Ensemble, Tangorama, NDS Orkestra’Sion and all the major orchestras in Turkey. Tolga Salman founded a duo with renowned Turkish pianist and composer Fazıl Say, and they performed Nuevo tango/New tango repertoire, focusing on Astor Piazzolla’s pieces in Istanbul and Antalya.
Tolga Salman is frequently invited to biannual Bandoneon Festival by Krefeld Municipality Cultural Office in Krefeld, Germany, believed to be the origin of the bandoneon.
Since 2004, Tolga Salman has been included in Mensing modern world tango musicians list. He currently performs on a “AA” Alfred Arnold (1983) bandoneon, which was restored by Carsten Heveling and was previously owned by Turkish bandoneon virtuoso Orhan Avşar. The instrument was generously donated to Salman by Abdullah Ebussuudoğlu after a solo bandoneon recital.
